Our year in review @ Octant

We're bringing you glad tidings as we welcome the new year.

2025 is the Year of the Snake. According to Chinese astrology, this year is associated with transformation, renewal, and spiritual growth. Snakes are known for their ability to shed their skin, symbolizing the process of letting go of the old and embracing the new. This is in tune with how we're feeling about things this year too.

2024 was a big year for us– we had 3 epochs in entireties, 4 epoch allocation windows, 1 accelerator, 7 community rounds, funded 341+ projects, and gave out over $3Mil in funding, all while growing our community in a meaningful way.

We set out to support builders, and support we did through funding grants research, building support programs and initiatives for builders, and running different forms of community-led decision making.

As we enter 2025, we're excited for a few things: community first and foremost. We just rolled out the Spanish version of our Octant App. We can't wait for you to try it, this allocation window! From our first LATAM grantee, Nacion Bankless, to having full-fledged Spanish block parties, channels, and community leaders, we're so proud to have you all as part of our community. Muchos gracias!

In 2025, we're taking Octant around the globe. Our community grantees will give you a glimpse of how. And, as we go global, our values stay the same: openness, open-source, and community-first.

This year, we've also got big plans to take Octant to the next level, through v2. We're building a protocol that will allow other ecosystems to bring more utility to their tokens and meaningfully fund their ecosystem while growing Ethereum.

✅ Epoch 3

17 January – 30 April, 2024

• We grew our epoch projects from 24 to 30.
• We improved our funding formula and refined the minimum funding threshold to 1/30 of total donations, improving the impact of every dollar donated.
• We integrated multisig support.
• We ran our Octant x GreenPill round.

Donated to projects: 359.41 ETH Rewards claimed by users: 213.98 ETH

✅ Epoch 4

16 April – 29 July, 2024

• We introduced Quadratic Funding.
• We removed the minimum funding threshold and introduced a max funding cap for projects, set at 20% of the Matched Rewards pool.
• We introduced a Uniqueness Quotient mechanism and took stronger anti-sybil measures.
• We launched our first Community Fund to grow Octant.
• We partnered with Metagov, How2DAO, and Regen Village to organize the Grants Funding Forum.

✅ Epoch 5

15 July – 27 October 2024

• We introduced a swanky new user experience designed with insights from our users, and a new reporting display so donors could make informed allocation decisions.
• An updated anti-Sybil process to improve user experience while maintaining the integrity of our community funding mechanism.
• We were part of the 2024 Web3 Grants Report published by Metagov.
• We launched Public Goods Sweepstakes with over $100k USD in prizes.
• We launched our Octant Accelerator program a 4-week growth program for builders and graduated 14 projects from our first cohort.
• We had 3 community rounds with Gitcoin, Climate Coordination Network (CCN), and Purple.
• We launched our Octant Community Fund II.
• We got featured in Forbes and Coindesk.

💚 Epoch 6

13 October – 25 January, 2025

• We got our first Spanish blockparties and channel, thanks to our Spanish-speaking community.
• We launched the Spanish version of our documentation and Octant app.
• We launched our SQF round, for our accelerator cohort, in partnership with Flowstate and Superfluid.

🌏 Events

• We were invited by the Ethereum Foundation to showcase at Devcon.
• We had Octant presence at EthDenver, Consensus, ETHCC, MCon, Funding the Commons, Edge Esmeralda, Edge City, Token 2049, and ETHWarsaw to name a few. Austin, Denver, Dubai, Healdsburg, DC, Detroit, San Francisco, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Berlin, Brussels, and Warsaw...Octant went around the globe this year.

📌 What's in store for us in 2025?

The year's long, and there's a LOT we've got planned, so let's start with the next few months:

• We have our Epoch 6 Allocation Window coming up.
• We'll be at ETHDenver next month.
• We're launching a Community Leaders program.
• We're launching v2 in a few months. You may have heard some alpha if you attended any of our Degens & Dragons talks in IRL events. That's going to be MAJOR, but more on that later.
