A closer look at the new Octant Voting App

It's an exciting time at Octant. Our first full-fledged funding round on Octant v2, Epoch 12, opened on June 16 and runs until June 30. It features a cohort of grantees who really are some of the best of the best with a 200 ETH matching pool.

In a time of change in the industry, we're more committed than ever to funding Ethereum and giving other communities the infrastructure to do the same.

In our past couple blogs, we've highlighted some important changes from the start of the Octant v2 era:

In this blog installment, we want to focus on practical changes in our new voting app.

New design, still Octant

The first thing you'll notice is a new look to the Octant App. There's a new design system underneath, built for what's coming: diverse, concurrent rounds, new allocation types, and other communities running their own.

It feels like Octant but with a softer touch. Octy is, of course, still here and loves when you fund public goods.

More rewards flexibility

For the first time, you decide when you want to use your accrued GLM-locking rewards. Rewards no longer expire each epoch.

This means you take an explicit step to back a funding round like Epoch 12. You can allocate all of your current rewards or save some for the next round.

Signing up for a round is an onchain transaction for both GLM Lockers and WETH direct contributors. The gas cost is minimal and only required on the first ballot submission.

From there, voting and revoting is an offchain signing via our zero-knowledge vote coprocessor. You can change your mind as often as you like at no cost.

Supporting project evaluation

Quadratic funding rounds are an exercise in community preference aggregation. Beyond making sure you can successfully allocate your funds to any project, the most important job for the voting app is to support your evaluation of projects.

There are 25 projects in Epoch 12. Not quite the 100s of grantees seen in the biggest web3 rounds, but still significant. A grid of logo squares can really only tell you something about name recognition.

This cohort is strong. We want you to dig in. Rather than opening dozens of new tabs or bouncing back-and-forth to the grid, you can arrow straight through the full slate of grantees from the project pages.

All these projects now live in Atlas, our new project registry. Profiles, category tags, links, and media travel with the project across Octant rounds and communities—helping build better evaluation continuity. We'll be opening Atlas up to projects across the ecosystem after Epoch 12.

It's 2026, so of course we can leverage AI to help make more informed decisions. Our AI assistant is there to help you evaluate grants with a human firmly in the loop and answer any questions you have about our QF round setup.

On the ballot

When you're ready to allocate, we have a new mobile-friendly ballot system. You'll see your estimated match ride alongside your ballot updates.

The 'View funding flow' tool shows where your contribution lands and how it impacts matching. Because the final match isn't set until every vote is in, you can also simulate new voters joining to see how the round shifts.

Some voters will reach this ballot through the WETH contribute-and-burn path rather than locked rewards. While it'd be great if many join that way, the primary objective of the experiment is to grow the GLM community long-term. We want our new friends to stick around. We'll nudge them to explore GLM locking, so their next ballot can support public goods without touching any of their principal.

The allocation window ends on June 30th. So make sure to try the app, allocate your rewards, and report back on how the experience was.
